Four Dead, Several Injured in Explosion at Aboso After Attempt to Kill Snake

Four people have lost their lives and several others sustained injuries following a devastating explosion at Aboso in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon after residents reportedly spotted a large snake believed to have been terrorising the community.

According to reports by Juliet Ofe of Dunkwa TV/PointOne News, a resident initially fired a warning shot in an attempt to scare the snake away before informing the owner of a nearby shop. The situation, however, escalated when security personnel at the shop reportedly attempted to shoot and kill the reptile.

Preliminary reports indicate that a bullet struck explosive materials, including dynamite, stored or being sold at the shop, triggering a powerful explosion that tore through the area.

Three people, including the shop owner, identified as Kofi Fletcher, were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth victim later died while being transported to a medical facility. Several other people sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

Emergency responders attended the scene, while security agencies have commenced investigations to determine the exact cause of the explosion and the circumstances leading to the incident.

The tragedy has left the Aboso community in shock as residents mourn those who lost their lives.
