GES Recruitment: What to Do After Receiving Your Appointment Letter
Receiving a Ghana Education Service (GES) appointment letter marks the beginning of your journey into the teaching profession. However, securing the appointment is only the first step. Successful applicants are expected to complete a number of administrative procedures before officially assuming duty.
Failure to complete these requirements within the stipulated period could delay your posting or appointment process. Here is what newly recruited teachers should do after downloading or receiving their appointment letters.
Print Multiple Copies of Your Appointment Letter
After accessing your appointment letter through the official GES recruitment portal, print several copies and keep both hard and soft copies for future reference.
You will be required to submit copies during the verification and onboarding process at the Regional and District Education Directorates.
Prepare All Required Documents
Applicants should organize both the original copies and photocopies of all relevant documents before reporting.
These may include:
- GES Appointment Letter
- Academic Certificate(s)
- National Service Certificate
- NTC Licensure Certificate
- Ghana Card
- Birth Certificate
- SSNIT Biometric Card
- Bank Account Details
- Passport-sized photographs
- WASSCE and BECE Certificates, where requested
- Any other supporting documents required by GES.
Obtain a Medical Fitness Report
Newly recruited teachers are generally required to undergo a medical examination at an approved health facility to certify that they are medically fit for employment.
Applicants should ensure the report is completed before the reporting deadline if requested by their Regional Directorate.
Write an Acceptance Letter
Successful applicants are expected to formally accept the appointment by submitting an acceptance letter addressed to the appropriate GES authority.
This confirms your willingness to take up the appointment under the conditions stated in the appointment letter.
Report to the Regional Education Directorate
Proceed to the Regional Education Directorate indicated in your appointment letter with all required documents.
Officials will verify your credentials and confirm the authenticity of your appointment before issuing further instructions.
Complete the Verification Process
During verification, GES officials will compare your documents with records received from the headquarters.
Applicants may be asked to return after a few days while the verification process is completed.
Collect Your Introductory Letter
After successful verification, you will receive an introductory letter directing you to your assigned District Education Directorate or school.
This letter serves as your official introduction for reporting to your new workplace.
Report to Your Assigned School
Present your introductory letter and appointment letter to the headteacher or head of institution.
The school administration will complete the necessary documentation to facilitate your assumption of duty and placement on the government payroll.
Assume Duty
Following the completion of all onboarding procedures, successful applicants are expected to officially assume duty on the date communicated by GES.
For the 2026 recruitment exercise, GES has indicated that successful applicants are expected to assume duty after the completion of the regional and district onboarding process.
Important Reminder
Applicants are advised to rely only on official communication from the Ghana Education Service and avoid individuals who promise appointments or postings in exchange for money.
GES has consistently warned applicants against fraud and urged teachers to verify the authenticity of their appointment letters before proceeding with the onboarding process.
