Fear and tension have taken over the Kobedi AME Zion Primary and Junior High School in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region after the sudden deaths of the school’s head teacher and another teacher.
Teachers at the school have now boycotted classes indefinitely over claims that an alleged curse invoked by a student may be linked to the deaths.
The head teacher, Madam Gladys Dorlo Batinge, reportedly died unexpectedly, alongside another teacher, throwing the entire school community into shock and confusion.
The boycott reportedly started on Monday, May 18, 2026, leaving many pupils stranded and roaming around the community during school hours as classrooms remain locked.
A visit to the school at Kobedi near Chiraa showed an empty campus, with no teaching or academic activity taking place.
Residents in the area, speaking anonymously, claimed the situation began after a student allegedly invoked a curse following accusations of extortion involving school authorities.
According to some community members, fears surrounding the local deity believed to be connected to the alleged curse have frightened many teachers, forcing them to stay away from the school.
“We are reliably informed that teachers have resolved to boycott classes and register their displeasure about the present happenings in the school,” a resident reportedly said.
One teacher at the school also confirmed that staff members have agreed not to return to the classroom until the alleged curse is revoked.
The shocking development has effectively shut down teaching and learning in the community, while worried parents and residents continue to search for answers behind the mysterious deaths.
