Samsung Sued For $15M Over Alleged Unauthorized Use Of Dua Lipa’s Image - BBC

Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, accusing the tech giant of using her image on TV packaging without permission.

According to court filings in California, Samsung allegedly placed a copyrighted photo of the singer on boxes for televisions sold across the United States, making it appear as though she endorsed the products. The image was reportedly taken backstage at the 2024 Austin City Limits festival, and Dua Lipa claims she owns the rights to it.

The lawsuit includes claims of:

Copyright infringement

Trademark infringement

Violation of publicity rights

Her legal team says Samsung ignored cease-and-desist demands sent after she became aware of the alleged use in 2025. The singer is seeking at least $15 million in damages and wants the company stopped from using her likeness.

The case also reportedly includes social media evidence from buyers who said seeing Dua Lipa on the packaging influenced their purchase decisions. Samsung has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit pointed to two specific Instagram comments, one where a user said they would

"get that TV just because Dua is on it,"

and another that read: "If you need anything selling just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it".
