Metro Mass Transit says the introduction of new buses will help improve and expand 24-hour transport services across the country.
The buses were commissioned at a ceremony in Accra on Friday May 22, by the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang with the Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit (MMT) describing the acquisition as a major milestone in the government’s transport transformation agenda.
According to the Managing Director of the company, the additional buses are expected to increase operational capacity and make transportation more accessible for commuters, especially during late hours.
The move forms part of efforts to support Ghana’s growing 24-hour economy agenda, which aims to keep businesses and economic activities running beyond traditional working hours.
The new buses are also expected to reduce pressure on existing fleets while improving reliability, safety, and convenience for passengers who depend on public transport daily.
The Managing Director explained that improving transport services is critical to the success of the 24-hour economy initiative, as workers and businesses will require dependable movement at all times of the day.
Many commuters have welcomed the development, with some hoping it will help reduce long waiting times and transportation difficulties often experienced at night.
