DVLA Extends Service Hours at 15 Offices Until 10PM Under 24-Hour Economy Push

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced a major change to its operations by extending working hours at selected offices across the country. This move forms part of efforts to improve service delivery and support Ghana’s growing 24-hour economy agenda.

When the New Service Hours Begin

According to the Authority, the extended working hours will officially take effect from Monday, May 4, 2026.

Under this new system, 15 DVLA offices nationwide will operate until 10:00 PM daily using a structured two-shift arrangement.

List of DVLA Offices Affected

The extended service hours will apply to the following locations:

  • Nahrman (near Haatso)
  • Weija
  • Tema
  • Bolgatanga
  • Wa
  • Tamale
  • Takoradi
  • Cape Coast
  • Koforidua
  • Sunyani
  • Ho
  • Techiman
  • Kumasi
  • Winneba
  • Tarkwa

These offices were selected because they serve as key regional and urban centres, ensuring broader access to DVLA services across Ghana.

Why DVLA Is Extending Working Hours

The DVLA explained that the decision is aimed at:

  • Improving access to services for the public
  • Reducing congestion and long queues at offices
  • Providing flexible service hours for working individuals
  • Enhancing efficiency and customer experience

The initiative also aligns with the government’s 24-hour economy policy, which seeks to boost productivity and expand access to essential services.

Important Payment Update

As part of the new arrangement, the DVLA has introduced a key policy for late-hour transactions:

  • All payments made after 5:00 PM must be done electronically

This measure is intended to improve transparency, ensure secure transactions, and streamline operations during extended hours.

Impact on Service Delivery

The DVLA believes this new system will:

  • Significantly reduce waiting time at service centres
  • Minimise the activities of middlemen (goro boys)
  • Encourage direct interaction between clients and the Authority
  • Improve overall efficiency in licensing and vehicle registration services

By extending operations into the evening, more people can now access DVLA services without disrupting their daily work schedules.

A Step Towards 24-Hour Public Services

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the DVLA to modernise its operations and gradually transition into a full 24-hour service model across the country.

The Authority has therefore urged the public to take advantage of the new system while cooperating with the updated procedures.

Final Thoughts

The extension of DVLA working hours marks a significant improvement in public service delivery in Ghana. With longer operating hours, reduced congestion, and improved access, motorists and vehicle owners can now enjoy more convenience when accessing essential services.

As Ghana continues to embrace the 24-hour economy, initiatives like this are expected to play a key role in transforming how public institutions serve citizens.
