Government Considers Phased Recruitment of 98,000 Teachers
The , Minister for Education, has indicated that the government may carry out the recruitment of about 98,000 teachers in phases as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s education sector.
According to the minister, the large number of trained teachers seeking employment requires a carefully planned recruitment strategy to ensure that the process is sustainable and properly managed. He explained that recruiting all the teachers at once could place a heavy financial burden on the government, making a phased approach more realistic.
The minister noted that the government remains committed to creating employment opportunities for trained teachers while maintaining efficiency within the education system. The phased recruitment plan will therefore allow authorities to gradually absorb qualified teachers into the public school system.
He further explained that the recruitment process will consider the needs of schools across the country, especially areas experiencing shortages of teachers. This approach is expected to improve the distribution of teachers and enhance teaching and learning in many communities.
The Ministry of Education Ghana is expected to work closely with the Ghana Education Service to ensure that the recruitment exercise is transparent and properly coordinated.
The announcement has brought hope to thousands of trained teachers across the country who are waiting to be posted into the public education system. Many graduates from Colleges of Education and universities have been anticipating new recruitment opportunities as the government works to address teacher shortages in various schools.
If implemented successfully, the phased recruitment of the 98,000 teachers is expected to significantly improve staffing levels in schools and support the government’s broader goal of strengthening education in Ghana.
