Cybercrime crackdown leads to arrest of 53 Nigerians in Accra raids

Security agencies have arrested 53 Nigerian nationals in a coordinated operation targeting cybercrime hubs across parts of Accra.

The Cyber Security Authority led the raids with support from other state agencies. The exercise covered several residential enclaves identified through intelligence gathering.

Officials arrested nine suspects described as coordinators of the operations. Authorities rescued 44 others believed to be victims of recruitment and control by syndicate leaders.

Security teams seized multiple items from the locations. These included laptops, mobile phones, and firearms. Investigators believe the equipment supported online fraud activities.

Officials said criminal networks operated from private homes. Young people were recruited with promises of jobs. Organizers later forced them into cybercrime.

All arrested persons underwent profiling. Authorities handed them over to immigration officials for further action. Some suspects face prosecution in Ghana. Others face repatriation after investigations.

Government officials said the operation forms part of a wider effort to protect Ghana’s digital reputation. Agencies aim to disrupt organized cybercrime and prevent the exploitation of foreign nationals.

Authorities urged residents to report suspicious activities in their communities. Security agencies said similar operations will continue across the country.
