Accra, Ghana – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially declared Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the winner of the January 2026 Presidential Primaries, cementing his position as the party’s flagbearer.

The declaration, made at the NPP National Headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, came following the collation of results from all 16 regions plus the party headquarters.

The Final Verdict

According to the official results signed by the Returning Officer, Samuel Dottoh Kwaah, and party agents, Dr. Bawumia secured a decisive victory. Out of a total of 195,901 valid votes cast, Bawumia polled 110,643 votes, representing 56.48% of the total valid ballots.

The "Final Declaration of Results" sheet explicitly marks Dr. Bawumia as ELECTED.

How the Candidates Performed

The race, which featured five prominent party stalwarts, saw fierce competition, particularly for the second and third spots. Here is the full breakdown of the final results:

  1. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia: 110,643 votes (56.48%) – WINNER

  2. Ken Ohene Agyapong: 46,554 votes (23.76%)

  3. Bryan Acheampong: 36,303 votes (18.53%)

  4. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum: 1,999 votes (1.02%)

  5. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong: 402 votes (0.21%)

  • Ashanti Region: As the party’s traditional stronghold, the Ashanti region delivered the highest numbers. Dr. Bawumia led with 19,700 votes, followed by Ken Agyapong with 8,603 and Bryan Acheampong with 4,642.

  • Greater Accra: The battle for the capital was won decisively by Bawumia with 19,820 votes. Interestingly, Ken Agyapong (11,333) and Bryan Acheampong (4,914) also posted their strongest individual regional numbers here.

  • Northern Dominance: Dr. Bawumia secured a landslide in the Northern Region with 9,272 votes, compared to just 811 for Ken Agyapong and 1,594 for Bryan Acheampong.

  • Eastern Region: This was a highly contested region. While Bawumia won with 10,487 votes, Bryan Acheampong put up a strong fight in his home region with 5,918 votes.

The results were certified on the evening of January 31, 2026, at 7:50 PM. The document bears the signatures of the candidates' agents, including Samuel Crabbe (for Ken Agyapong), George Amponsah (for Bryan Acheampong), and Hon. Fuseini Issah (for Dr. Bawumia), signaling a transparent collation process.
