2025 recruitment of teachers to be free and transparent – GES PRO

This year’s recruitment of graduate-trained teachers from various government Colleges of Education (CoE) and other prospective applicants will be free and transparent, the Head of the Public Relations Unit at the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, has said.

“Teachers and prospective applicants should expect a free, transparent, and open GES recruitment process this year,” the spokesperson for the Ghana Education Service said in an interview monitored by Thinkofgh.

Mr Daniel Fenyi’s assurance comes after the Minister of Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, said plans are underway for the central government to recruit 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff this academic year.

The Minister of Education, addressing the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, said adequate provisions have been made in the 2025 national budget for the mass recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff.

“Mr. Speaker, as I have assured this House, 50,000 teachers will be recruited, along with 10,000 non-teaching staff. Adequate provision was made for this in the 2025 budget,” Mr Haruna Iddrisu told Parliament on Wednesday.

The Education Minister said the impending recruitment of the 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff in the country forms part of President John Mahama’s administration’s efforts to strengthen the education sector.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu said the mass recruitment process would begin once the Finance Minister had given the clearance and the Auditor-General had completed a validation process to get rid of ghost names on teachers’ payroll.

In a related development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) says it has finalised preparations for the recruitment of 2023 graduate teachers from the various public Colleges of Education and is now awaiting financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.

This development was confirmed during a high-level engagement between the leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) and the Director-General of GES, Professor Frank Kofi Davis, on June 2, 2025.

Led by TTAG President H.E. Razak Soale, the delegation met with senior GES officials, including the Head of Legal Affairs, Internal Auditor, Head of Public Relations, and the General Secretary, to discuss the status of postings for the graduate teachers.

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) at the meeting assured Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana that GES has completed and submitted the full recruitment budget covering all qualified graduates.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has prepared and submitted the full recruitment budget covering all graduate teachers from the public Colleges of Education,” Prof. Davis told the leadership for the Trainees Association.

The GES official added “The budget has been successfully defended and approved by the Ministry of Finance and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education. The process is currently awaiting financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, after which GES will commence recruitment and posting.”

The newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) emphasised his dedication to conducting a smooth and transparent process (recruitment), particularly as this marks his first recruitment exercise as Director-General.

Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) reacting to the development expressed appreciation for the Director-General’s proactive approach but urged the relevant authorities to expedite the financial clearance.

We call on the Ministry of Finance to act with urgency to finalise this process so graduates can be posted without further delays,” the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) President Razak Soale said.
