Urgent Appeal: Addressing Delayed Staff IDs and Salaries for Newly Posted Teachers in Northern Region

Ensuring Dignity and Fair Treatment for Educators

Teachers serve as the backbone of any society, shaping the minds of future generations. However, in Ghana’s Northern Region, 156 newly posted teachers have been left in a distressing situation—waiting for their Staff IDs and salaries for over eight months. This delay has not only created financial hardship but has also raised serious concerns about bureaucratic inefficiencies within the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The Struggles of Newly Posted Teachers

These teachers were officially posted to the Northern Region on July 5, 2024, and assumed duty on September 10, 2024. While some of their colleagues received their Staff IDs in December 2024, a significant number—156 teachers—were excluded without any clear justification.

Despite repeated follow-ups with the Northern Regional Directorate of GES, their concerns remain unresolved. The lack of Staff IDs means they:

Are unable to access their salaries, leaving them financially stranded for over eight months.

Lack official recognition as educators, which affects their professional standing.

Struggle to meet basic needs, including rent, utility bills, and daily sustenance.

Many of these teachers relied on parental support when they first reported to their postings. However, after months without salaries, they now face severe financial hardship, while their colleagues who received their IDs in December are already being paid. The disparity has fueled frustration and a sense of neglect.

A Plea for Immediate Intervention

In a formal appeal dated March 28, 2025, the affected teachers reached out to the Northern Regional authorities, stating:

> "As the father of the region, we believe you are the only one who can help us resolve this issue... We urge you to use your esteemed office to help us obtain our Staff IDs within the first week of April, enabling us to be captured in April's validation."

Their request is clear and just: swift intervention to facilitate the issuance of their Staff IDs and ensure prompt payment of their salaries.

Why This Issue Demands Urgent Action

1. Preserving Teacher Dignity – Educators should not have to endure financial distress due to administrative delays. Timely salaries uphold their dignity and motivation.

2. Protecting Education Quality – Teachers under financial strain struggle to perform optimally, which negatively impacts students’ learning experiences.

3. Addressing Systemic Inefficiencies – This is not an isolated case but part of a broader issue requiring urgent reform in education sector administration.

A Call to Action

We urge:

The Northern Regional Directorate of GES

The Ministry of Education

Relevant Government Authorities

to take immediate steps to rectify this situation. These teachers must receive their Staff IDs and outstanding salaries without further delay.

No teacher should have to struggle for what is rightfully theirs.
