The Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) are teaming up to conduct monitoring visits to Year 1 students in
Senior High Schools (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), and STEM schools across Ghana. This initiative, scheduled to take place from February 10th to 14th, 2025, aims to ensure the effective implementation of internal assessment practices under the new curriculum.¹
During these visits, teams consisting of two representatives from GES and WAEC will engage with school management, Year 1 teachers, and learners to assess how the internal assessment practices are being implemented. The goal is to provide support where necessary and address any challenges promptly.
The monitoring efforts will focus on evaluating the roll-out of new assessment methods, which are an integral part of the updated curriculum. This move demonstrates the commitment of GES and WAEC to ensuring a smooth transition to the new curriculum and providing quality education to Ghanaian students.
By conducting these monitoring visits, GES and WAEC hope to gather valuable insights that will inform future adjustments to the curriculum and assessment procedures. This collaborative effort is a step towards enhancing the education sector in Ghana and providing students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in an ever-changing world.
