Licensure Exam in College: College of Education to start writing Licensure Examination in College?
In its 2024 manifesto, the Mahama-led administration pledged to incorporate the Licensure Examination into the curriculum of Colleges of Education to alleviate the stress associated with obtaining a teaching license in Ghana. Following his inauguration on January 7, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama's government has been anticipated to implement this promise.
As of January 31, 2025, the second of the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program, introduced in 2018 across 46 accredited Colleges of Education, will conclude their mandatory one-year National Service. This group has already completed the Licensure Examination and received their results. Consequently, many teacher trainees are eager to know when the government will fulfill its commitment to integrate the Licensure Examination into their curriculum.
According to reliable sources, the government remains committed to this integration but faces certain challenges delaying its implementation:
1. Logistical Challenges: Integrating the Licensure Examination into the college curriculum necessitates significant modifications to the existing education system, a process that is both time-consuming and complex.
2. Curriculum Reform: The government may be undertaking comprehensive curriculum reforms, which include the integration of the Licensure Examination.
3. Stakeholder Consultation: Engaging with various stakeholders—such as education experts, teachers, and students—is crucial to ensure proper implementation.
4. Resource Allocation: Additional resources, including funding and personnel, are required to support the new system. Considerations include course management, supervision, and assessment processes.
5. Administrative Appointments: Ongoing appointments to key positions may also contribute to the delay in implementing the integration.
The government is diligently working to address these challenges to fulfill its promise of integrating the Licensure Examination into the curriculum of the 46 accredited Colleges of Education in Ghana.
In terms of cancelling the One Year National Service, when will the government fulfill his commitment to that promise?
