Government Resolves CETAG Migration onto University Grades Structure Issue

In a significant breakthrough, the Government of Ghana has successfully resolved the long-standing issue of migrating members of the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) onto the University grades structure.

This resolution comes after months of negotiations and discussions between the Government, CETAG, and other stakeholders. The agreement is expected to bring an end to the protracted dispute, which had resulted in several strikes and disruptions to academic activities in Colleges of Education across the country.

According to sources close to the negotiations, the Government has agreed to migrate CETAG members onto the University grades structure, with effect from the 2022/2023 academic year. This means that CETAG members will now be paid salaries and allowances commensurate with their qualifications and experience, just like their counterparts in the universities.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, expressed his satisfaction with the resolution, stating that it marks a significant milestone in the Government's efforts to reform the education sector.

"We are pleased to have reached this agreement with CETAG, which will bring an end to the uncertainty and disruptions that have characterized the Colleges of Education in recent times," Dr. Adutwum said. "This resolution demonstrates our commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and ensuring that they are motivated to deliver quality education to our students."

The President of CETAG, Mr. Emmanuel Oduro, also welcomed the resolution, describing it as a "major victory" for CETAG members.

"We are grateful to the Government for listening to our concerns and working with us to find a solution," Mr. Oduro said. "This resolution will bring a significant improvement in the salaries and allowances of our members, and we are confident that it will motivate them to deliver even better services to our students."

The resolution is expected to have a positive impact on the education sector, as it will help to address the long-standing issue of disparity in salaries and allowances between CETAG members and their counterparts in the universities.

With this resolution, the Government has demonstrated its commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and ensuring that they are motivated to deliver quality education to students.
