PRINCOF to Seek Consultation from GTEC and Education Minister on School Closure Amid TTAG Appeal"

In a recent statement, the President of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), Professor Samuel Atintino, addressed two critical issues that are currently impacting Ghana’s educational sector.

Consultation with GTEC and the Minister of Education on School Closures

One of the primary concerns raised by the Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana (TTAG) is the potential closure of Colleges of Education due to ongoing challenges. In response to this, Professor Atintino assured that PRINCOF will consult with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Minister of Education to determine the best course of action. The consultations aim to assess the situation thoroughly before making any decisions regarding the closure of schools. This measured approach ensures that all stakeholders are considered in the decision-making process, ultimately seeking the best outcome for students, faculty, and the broader educational community.

Progress on CETAG’s Book and Research Allowance and Payroll Migration

In addition to addressing the concerns of TTAG, Professor Atintino provided an update on two important financial issues affecting the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).

Firstly, he confirmed that the book and research allowance owed to CETAG members has been paid. This payment is a significant step in addressing the financial commitments to the educators, who play a vital role in shaping the future of education in the country.

Secondly, Professor Atintino revealed that the migration of CETAG members to the university payroll system is underway. The migration process has already begun with colleges affiliated with the University of Cape Coast, which marks a crucial phase in aligning the compensation of college educators with that of their counterparts in universities. This move is expected to improve the financial and professional status of CETAG members, thereby enhancing the overall quality of education in the Colleges of Education.

 Conclusion

The PRINCOF President’s statements highlight ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by Ghana’s Colleges of Education. By consulting with key educational bodies and addressing financial concerns, Professor Atintino and PRINCOF are working to ensure stability and progress within the sector. The outcomes of these initiatives will be closely monitored by all stakeholders as they strive to enhance the quality of teacher education in Ghana.
