EXPOSED: OBUASI SEENIOR HIGH Headmaster Suspended for Sexual Misconduct

Zakaria Abdulai, the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (Obuasi SHTS). Per the upcoming investigative piece by Mannaseh Azure Awuni, there are at least 16 female students he’s taken advantage of. 

In August 2026, Obuasi Senior High Technical School school experienced massive unrest when students rioted and physically assaulted Abdulai. Super enraged students accused the headmaster of engaging in ritual practices and forcing an abortion on a student. The mob attack left the headmaster with serious injuries requiring hospitalization at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Following the August campus rampage, which resulted in the destruction of the headmaster's bungalow and vehicle, the police arrested six students. Further investigations by the Obuasi District Police Command led to the arrest of two teachers who were accused of instigating the student body to carry out the attack.

Manasseh Azure Awuni took on the story to investigate it further. The findings were scandalous ! Gross sexual misconduct and abuse of office. 

The Ministry of Education immediately released an official statement declaring the sexual misconduct allegations to be highly serious. 

Subsequently, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately suspend Zakaria Abdulai, the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (Obuasi SHTS).

Aside from the immediate suspension pending a full internal inquiry, the Sector Minister has also requested the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch a formal criminal investigation into the matter.

Before these incidents, Zakaria Abdulai was recognized as a long-standing educational leader. He has served as the Headmaster and Chief Executive Officer of Obuasi SHTS since 2015. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and has over 25 years of experience in educational leadership.
