Police Inspector Arrested Over Alleged MoMo Robberies in Kumasi

A police officer stationed at Abuakwa, Inspector Bright Appiah Danquah, has reportedly been arrested together with three other suspects over alleged armed robberies targeting mobile money vendors in Kumasi and nearby communities.

According to reports, one MoMo vendor was allegedly robbed of GH₵38,600 at gunpoint.

In a shocking twist, the officer reportedly left his phone at the robbery scene. Sources say he later went to a police station to report the phone as stolen, only to allegedly meet the same robbery victim who had come to file a complaint.

Investigations are currently ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full details behind the alleged operation.

Public Concerns

The incident has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of MoMo vendors across Ghana, especially in high-risk areas where attacks continue to rise.

Many Ghanaians are now calling for:

Increased police patrols around MoMo shops

Installation of CCTV cameras

Panic alarm systems for vendors

Stricter background checks within security agencies

Reduced cash handling through improved digital transfers

What measures do you think should be introduced to better protect MoMo vendors in Ghana?
