Big Push: Soldiers Start Work on Accra–Kumasi Expressway

The long-awaited Accra–Kumasi Expressway has officially moved from talk to action and the speed is already turning heads.

Soldiers from the Ghana Armed Forces have begun clearing sections of the proposed route to pave the way for feasibility and design studies, marking a critical early phase of the project.

According to Frank Amoakohene, the operation is expected to run for 20 weeks, with military precision driving progress at an unusually fast pace.

 Ground Zero: Akim Asuboa

The military has established a base camp at Akim Asuboa, positioning the town as a key operational hub for this phase of the project.

This move;

  • Signals serious commitment to one of Ghana’s most important road projects
  • Fast-tracks the planning stage, which often delays major infrastructure
  • Sets the tone for execution speed rarely seen in public works

What Comes Next

This clearing phase will directly support:

  • Route mapping
  • Environmental and technical assessments
  • Final engineering designs

If this pace holds, the Accra–Kumasi corridor could be on track for a major transformation sooner than expected.
