8 Teachers, Invigilators Jailed Over 2025 BECE Malpractice– Huruna Iddrisu

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has confirmed that eight teachers and invigilators implicated in examination malpractice during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been convicted and sentenced.

The disclosure signals a tougher national stance against exam fraud, with authorities moving beyond cancellations and bans to criminal prosecution.

What Happened

According to the minister, the convicted individuals were found guilty of aiding and facilitating cheating during the exams. Offences included:

Allowing unauthorized materials into exam halls

Assisting candidates with answers

Compromising supervision protocols

These actions violated both examination regulations and Ghana’s criminal laws on academic misconduct.

Government’s Position

The minister emphasized that the era of leniency is over. The government is now:

Enforcing strict accountability for exam officials

Working with security agencies to investigate malpractice

Prosecuting offenders to deter others

He stressed that protecting the credibility of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is non-negotiable.

This development marks a significant shift:

From administrative penalties → to criminal convictions

Sends a clear warning to teachers, invigilators, and candidates

Reinforces the integrity of Ghana’s education system

Exam malpractice has long undermined trust in results, but these convictions indicate a zero-tolerance enforcement approach.

BIGGER MESSAGE

Eight convictions. Real sentences.

The message is direct: anyone who compromises BECE faces legal consequences not just disciplinary action.
