A Ghanaian pastor has triggered massive debate after declaring that any man who gives less than GH¢20 as offering is not fit for marriage.
A controversial statement by Reverend Takal Mordecai of Petra International Church, Adenta, is causing heated reactions online after a viral video captured him advising women to avoid marrying men who give “small offerings” in church.
According to the pastor, any man who gives GH¢10 or GH¢20 as offering is financially unprepared for marriage and should not be considered a serious partner.
“Any boy who gives an offering GH¢10 or GH¢20 is not ready for marriage. His finances are zero; don’t marry him,” he stated.
He argued that a man’s attitude toward giving in church reflects his capacity to love and appreciate a partner.
“If a man can be stingy with God, is he you? He doesn’t appreciate God; will he appreciate you?”
Reverend Mordecai backed his position with a biblical reference, stressing that love is demonstrated through giving, just as God showed love by giving His only Son.
He also dismissed the excuse of not having enough money, insisting that giving is about willingness, not the amount.
The statement has since divided opinions, with some agreeing that generosity reflects character, while others argue that financial value should not determine someone’s readiness for marriage.
