Only in Volta Region: Cemetery Now a DStv Football Centre

Residents of Hohoe are turns an unusual location into a lively social spot, a cemetery that now doubles as a football viewing and relaxation centre.

Yes, a cemetery.

At the old burial grounds near FRANCO College of Education, a conference structure equipped with DStv and a giant screen has become a popular gathering point where young people meet to watch football, relax, and socialize.

Built by Former MP

Sources say the facility was built and furnished by former John Peter Amewu, who served as Member of Parliament for the Hohoe Constituency from 2020 to 2024 before losing the seat in the 2024 election to Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo.

The cemetery now functions as a meeting place and football viewing centre, drawing crowds especially during English Premier League matches.

The Dead Watching EPL With Us”

Photos and posts circulating on social media triggered a wave of reactions from Ghanaians who found the location both shocking and hilarious.

Some comments joked about the unusual setting:

“The dead shall watch the EPL and give analysis to the living.”

“When fans shout goooal, the ghosts will shout goooal too.”

“I passed there during a funeral at night and people were seriously watching football.”

Others, however, praised the clean and well-organized environment, saying the facility gives local youth a safe place to relax and gather.

A Cemetery… But Also a Community Spot

Residents familiar with the area insist the centre is not strange to locals. It sits within a developed part of town with houses around it, and the structure was intentionally designed as a relaxation and meeting facility for the community.

Still, for many online, the idea remains surreal:

A place meant for the dead… now echoing with cheers during Premier League matches.
