The Office of the National Chief Imam has officially announced Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the date for the sighting of the crescent moon that will determine the beginning of Ramadan 2026 in Ghana.
According to the Office of the , the observation will take place on the 29th day of Sha’ban in the Islamic calendar, in accordance with traditional Islamic moon-sighting practices.
How Ramadan 2026 Will Be Determined
Islam follows a lunar calendar, meaning the start of each month depends on the physical sighting of the crescent moon.
Here is how the process will work:

If the crescent moon is successfully sighted on Wednesday evening (February 18, 2026),
➤ Thursday, February 19, 2026, will be declared the first day of Ramadan. -
