Police recover 942 alleged NPP primary ballot papers in Kumasi

Security officials in the Ashanti Region have recovered 942 suspected ballot papers linked to the New Patriotic Party’s internal presidential primary process.

The materials were found hidden inside an uncompleted building in the Aburaso area of Kumasi. Police acted on intelligence received early in the morning and secured the structure before beginning a search.

A total of 942 ballot papers were retrieved from the building. Of these, 609 had already been thumb-printed in favour of one candidate, while the remaining 333 were unused and unmarked. The papers were found concealed in a washroom inside the building.

Police have taken custody of the ballot papers. They have handed them over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department for forensic analysis and further investigation to determine how they came to be stored at the location and who was responsible.

The discovery has raised concern among political observers given the high-stakes nature of the ongoing internal election process. Authorities have urged residents and stakeholders to remain calm and to let security agencies complete their work.

Police emphasised their commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting the integrity of political processes. Investigations continue and more details are expected as authorities work to trace the source of the materials and clarify the circumstances around their concealment.
