CETAG Strike Continues as Outstanding Issues Remain Unresolved
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has officially reaffirmed the continuation of its nationwide strike action, following the failure of authorities to address key outstanding demands raised by the association.
In a memo dated 12th January 2026, and signed by the National Executive Officers, CETAG made it clear that the industrial action declared on 24th November 2025 remains fully in force and binding on all members across the country.
Strike Remains in Full Effect
According to the memo addressed to all CETAG members, none of the association’s legitimate demands has been satisfactorily resolved. As a result, there is no basis to suspend or call off the strike at this time.
The National Executive Officers emphasized that members are to remain fully compliant with the strike directive until further notice.
“The strike continues until further notice. No member should resume academic or administrative duties unless officially directed by the National Secretariat.”
Outstanding Issues Yet to Be Addressed
CETAG outlined several critical issues that remain unresolved, contributing to the decision to sustain the strike action:
AYRWC Payments
Twelve (12) Colleges of Education are yet to receive payments, while four (4) colleges have received only partial payments.
2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance (BRA) Arrears
No college has received payment to date.
2022/2023 Book and Research Allowance Arrears
No college has received payment on a pro-rata basis.
Akrokerri College of Education Research Allowance
The top-up component remains unpaid.
These unresolved financial obligations continue to affect the welfare of teacher educators nationwide.
NLC Resolution Scheduled
The association also disclosed that the matter is currently before the National Labour Commission (NLC), with a resolution hearing scheduled for 21st January 2026. CETAG members have been urged to remain patient, united, and resolute while awaiting the outcome.
Directives to Members
The National Secretariat has issued strict directives to ensure discipline and unity during the strike:
The strike action remains in force until officially called off.
Members must not resume academic or administrative work without formal authorization.
Zonal and local executives are mandated to enforce compliance and report any breaches immediately.
Call for Unity and Solidarity
CETAG leadership called on members across the forty-six (46) Colleges of Education to remain steadfast and committed to the collective struggle.
“Our strength lies in our solidarity, and any deviation undermines the efforts of the entire association.”
The association expressed appreciation to its members for their resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to fairness and justice, reaffirming confidence that a positive outcome will eventually be achieved.
Conclusion
As negotiations continue and the NLC prepares to intervene, the CETAG strike remains a significant development within Ghana’s education sector. Stakeholders, including students and college administrations, await the outcome of the scheduled resolution, while CETAG maintains its firm stance until all outstanding obligations are fully addressed.
