Ghana to Deploy Nurses and Teachers to Jamaica Under New Bilateral Agreement

The deployment initiative aligns with the Mahama administration’s broader strategy to forge strategic global partnerships while opening international employment avenues for Ghanaian professionals.

In a significant step to boost international cooperation and create new opportunities for Ghanaian professionals, President John Dramani Mahama has initiated plans to deploy nurses and teachers to Jamaica as part of a special bilateral agreement.

The initiative was disclosed by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post on Saturday. He revealed that the agreement will allow Ghanaian health and education professionals to be sent to Jamaica to help meet the Caribbean nation’s workforce demands in key sectors.

“Jamaica is ready to receive nurses and teachers from Ghana under a special bilateral partnership,” Ablakwa stated.

He also noted that Ghana and Jamaica have agreed to hold high-level political consultations aimed at enhancing cooperation in several areas, including trade, education, agribusiness, tourism, culture, and sports.

The announcement follows what Ablakwa described as “an immensely successful meeting” with Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, during the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Summit held in Brussels.

“Ghana and Jamaica are set to expand the frontiers of our inseparable historical relations,” Ablakwa said, highlighting the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
