According to a statement from the Ashanti Regional Police Command, 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, also a final-year student and reportedly in a relationship with Joana, has been taken into custody for questioning. The authorities are working tirelessly to uncover the details surrounding this unfortunate event.

What Happened?

Miss Yabani was discovered lifeless near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre around 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. The university’s security services promptly reported the incident, leading to an immediate police investigation.

CCTV footage from the campus reportedly captured Tuffuor’s movements, playing a crucial role in his apprehension. Speaking on the matter, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe confirmed that the suspect is currently assisting with investigations.

Heightened Security Measures

In response to this tragic event, KNUST authorities and law enforcement have intensified security measures on campus. The police have launched a 24-hour surveillance operation, ensuring that students and staff feel safe. Additionally, officers will conduct round-the-clock patrols to prevent similar occurrences.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has personally assured KNUST’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, of his commitment to maintaining security on campus. The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude for the swift police response and reassured students and parents that their safety remains a priority.

A Heartbreaking Loss

Losing a student in such a tragic manner is devastating. The KNUST community, students, staff, and parents are in mourning, struggling to process this painful reality. The university has urged students to stay vigilant and cooperate with security personnel while the investigation continues.
