TTAG Announces Key Developments in CETAG Strike Resolution

In a pivotal move towards resolving the ongoing CETAG strike, the Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana (TTAG) has provided an essential update following a crucial meeting with the Honorable Minister for Education and the President of the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) on July 24, 2024. This meeting aimed to address the pressing issues and find lasting solutions to the CETAG strike, which has significantly impacted the academic calendar. Here are the key takeaways from the update:

1. Immediate Disbursement of Book and Research Allowances: TTAG members can expect their Book and Research Allowances to be disbursed today, July 25, 2024. This follows confirmation from the Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD), ensuring that members receive their dues promptly.

2. Migration of CETAG Members to Assistant Lecturer Positions: The Honorable Minister for Education has assured that CETAG members with MPhil qualifications will be migrated to the position of Assistant Lecturers. This transition will align them with their counterparts in traditional universities, adhering to all applicable terms and conditions of the affiliate universities of the respective colleges.

3. Rescheduling of Examinations: PRINCOF has been directed to work closely with affiliated universities to reschedule examinations, accommodating the timelines affected by the strike. This directive ensures that academic assessments proceed smoothly without compromising the integrity of the academic calendar.

4. Approval of Teacher Trainees' Allowances: Funds have been approved for the prompt payment of Teacher Trainees' allowances. This financial support is crucial for trainees, enabling them to focus on their studies without the added burden of financial uncertainty.

5. Consideration of Academic Calendar Extension: Recognizing the challenges posed by lost contact hours due to the strike, the Honorable Minister has proposed extending the academic calendar. Additionally, weekends and night classes may be considered to mitigate the impact on teacher trainees' education.

The Honorable Minister for Education has acknowledged the profound impact of the strike on the current academic calendar and expressed a commitment to continuous negotiations with CETAG to bring the strike to a conclusive end. This proactive approach underscores the government's dedication to maintaining educational continuity and addressing the legitimate concerns of CETAG members.

TTAG's leadership urges all Teacher Trainees to remain focused on their academic endeavors and uphold their commitment to professional excellence. The association remains steadfast in advocating for the best interests of Teacher Trainees amidst the industrial strike and other pertinent concerns.
