THE LEADERSHIP OF TTAG ENGAGE THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION .
Earlier today, July, 4, 2024 the leadership of Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) led by H.E Soale Razak and H.E Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel of NUGS engaged the Minister of Education about the Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG) industrial strike action and its implications to teacher trainees across the country.
According to the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, he has invited the leadership of CETAG on Friday, 5th July, 2024 to engage and find suitable solutions to the demands of our tutors in the colleges, to ensure swift resolution and resumption of academic activities.
The Minister assured TTAG that he is committed to fulfilling CETAG's demands, provided they demonstrate good faith and cooperate with the government.
Our discussion equally spanned across upgrading some of the colleges of education to fully fledged universities for which the Minister acknowledged the need for such a system, similar to the mentoring universities.
He confirmed that this is achievable under the guidance of GTEC and will be implemented as soon as possible.
Student Allowances
The Minister clarified that the initial allowances will be paid to students within the coming days.
The leadership of TTAG submitted a proposal for a significant increase in the allowance to GHc800.00 cushion teacher trainees across the colleges of education. This proposal, the Minister assured to consider and discuss with with his stakeholders.
Infrastructure Deficits in colleges
The Minister acknowledged the poor state of buses in Colleges of Education and pledged his attention in acquiring buses to improve transportation services.
He confirmed that the previous contract for abandoned and uncompleted infrastructure projects has been terminated and new contracts would be awarded. Progress on these projects will be made as quickly as possible.
Student Exchange Programs
Leadership proposed to the Minister a system where exportation of teachers to other countries would be termed as a strength to ease the pressure on the employment of teachers. The Minister shared same views and gave his reassurance to visit that proposal and make possible considerations.
The Minister highlighted his commitment to transforming the education sector, with a specific focus on enhancing Colleges of Education.
He envisions creating a 21st-century learning environment within Colleges and investing in student teachers to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective teaching.
The meeting provided a platform for TTAG to raise key concerns and receive assurances from the Minister regarding his commitment to addressing these issues. While the immediate resolution of the CETAG strike remains crucial, the Minister's plans for future improvements in Colleges of Education offer hope for a brighter future for teacher training in Ghana.
We as leadership will continue to monitor the situation closely, following up on the promised meeting with CETAG. We want to also appeal to our tutors to for once consider to meet with the Minister for Education to resolving this impasse.
We will actively engage with the Minister and relevant stakeholders to ensure the prompt implementation of the proposed solutions.
We will continue advocating for the well-being of teacher trainees and the improvement of teacher training institutions.
We Mean Well!
THANK YOU!
