Second Semester of 2023-2024 Academic Year Postponed in Ghanaian Colleges of Education
The National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has announced the postponement of the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year in all public Colleges of Education in Ghana.
The originally planned start date has been moved from the earlier date on the Academic Calendar to June 9, 2024.
The decision to postpone the semester was made at PRINCOF’s 2nd quarterly General Meeting held on 31st May 2024, in Techiman.
A statement from PRINCOF said the postponement is due to “circumstances beyond PRINCOF's control." The statement added that the deferral period will allow them time to “consult with Government to resolve very burning issues affecting the smooth operations of the Colleges.”
The statement expresses regret for any inconvenience this may cause and assures stakeholders that they are working diligently with the relevant authorities to ensure that academic work resumes as soon as possible.
The National President, Prof. Samuel Awinkene Atintono and the General Secretary, Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng assure students and the college community that their primary concern remains the well-being and academic success of the students and they are committed to resolving this issue as quickly as possible.
They will keep stakeholders updated on any further developments.
This news will likely come as a disappointment to many students who were looking forward to starting the second semester. However, it is important to remember that PRINCOF is working in the best interests of the students and the colleges. The hope is that by postponing the semester, they will be able to resolve the outstanding issues and ensure a smooth start to the academic year.
Here are some additional details that students may want to consider:
- It is not clear what the “very burning issues” are that are affecting the Colleges.
- Students should stay in touch with their college administration for more information on how the postponement will affect them.
- It is possible that the postponement could lead to changes in the academic calendar, such as a shorter semester or later exams.
We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
