The National Labour Commission (NLC) has cancelled the proposed meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commisssion(FWSC) and the Colleges of
Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).The cancellation of the meeting was due to Fair Wages and Salaries Commission's (FWSC) failure to appear before the High Court on the 26th of June, 2024. As a result, the NLC found it inappropriate to proceed with the meeting on 27th June, 2024.
Additionally, the NLC has directed CETAG to call off their strike before any hearing can proceed.
However, CETAG has not complied with this directive, leaving the NLC with no choice but to withhold the meeting until the strike is called off.
As a result, the NLC heard no pleas from either side. However, the FWSC's appearance in court has been delayed for July 18, 2024. They will be expected to produce proof of NLC directive implementation during this hearing. The question of whether CETAG will call off its strike remains unanswered.
CETAG has already stated that they will not be coerced into calling off their strike until all of their demands are granted. However, it is unclear whether they will reconsider their attitude.
