Parliament to Education Ministry: Allow first-year SHS students to report in January 2024.

It has been requested that the Ministry of Education reevaluate its decision to permit senior high school (SHS) first-year students to report on Monday, December 4, 2023.

To give parents and teachers more time to prepare, Speaker of the House Alban S. K. Bagbin has suggested moving the reopening date to the first week of January.

In order to brief the House on the reopening date and other issues, the Speaker has called Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, to appear before the House on Monday, December 4.

The action comes after Ranking Member on Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi North Peter Kwasi Nortsu-Kotoe made a statement regarding the apparent rush to permit the pupils to return to school on Monday.

The minority-party MPs voiced concern about the difficulties parents will have in preparing their kids for school on Monday between Thursday and Sunday.

According to the MPs, it is inexplicable that kids had to rush to report on Monday and that school placement was just announced two days ago.

According to the MPs, locals have called for support and even for adjustments to be made to their placement.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu, made it clear that he had received calls from teachers who were tired and requesting time off.
