Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president of Ghana, gave GH 50,000 Cedis to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) to support the 47th SWAG Awards ceremony.
Over 40 athletes who excelled and brought honor to the nation in 2022 will be honored by SWAG next weekend as part of the annual SWAG Awards, which honors notable Ghanaian athletes.
The SWAG President, Kwabena Yeboah, and Secretary General, Charles Osei Asibey, received Dr. Bawumia's 50,000 Cedis support on Wednesday from a vice president's aide, Tamimu Issah.
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR FOR FEMALE FOOTBALL, SPORTS JOURNALIST
Dr. Bawumia is donating 10,000 Cedis from the total to the female footballer of the year and the sports journalist of the year, respectively. The remaining 30,000 Cedis will go to SWAG to support its operations.
The 46th SWAG Awards received support from Vice President Bawumia last year in the form of 50,000 Cedis, and she also gave the Female Footballer of the Year and Sports Journalist of the Year each GH 10,000 Cedis.
Vice President Bawumia explained that the purpose of his financial support for the two special award categories at the 46th SWAG Awards was to motivate female football players. The Vice President explained that his backing for the Sports Journalist of the Year is intended to inspire sports journalists to keep making significant contributions to the growth of sports in the nation.
Dr. Bawumia's support was acknowledged by SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah, who also thanked him on behalf of the Association.
Many sports organizations have benefited from the vice president's charitable support, including RTU, King Faisal, Hasaacas Ladies, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, SWAG, and others.
The Accra International Center will host the 47th MTN/Adamus SWAG Awards in January 28 2023
